Shared Futures: Learning for a World Lived in Common by Grant Cornwell
In an address given at AAC&U's 2003 Annual Meeting Pre-Conference Symposium "Shared Futures: Diversity, Inequality, and the Challenge of Global Citizenship," Grant Cornwell developed the concept that global citizenship begins with the insight of interdependence. Cornwell and his colleague, Eve Stoddard, plan on writing an essay based on the ideas expressed in Cornwell's remarks.

Globalizing Knowledge: Connecting International and Intercultural Studies
This report published by the Association of American Colleges and Universities in 1999 as part of its Academy in Transition series, argues for new goals for global learning that bring together lessons learned from movements to internationalize the curriculum, the campus diversity movement, and study abroad and experiential learning efforts. Global Collaborations: The Role of Higher Education in Diverse Democracies
This report published by AAC&U in 2002 with support from the Ford Foundation explores the challenges posed by diversity to democratic societies within the context of higher education. Includes perspectives from the three countries (India, South Africa, and the United States) that participated in the Ford Foundation's Tri-National Seminar on Diversity and Higher Education. The report frames some parameters for a new kind of global education that would be comparative in nature, reciprocal in practice, and committed to social justice. Beyond September 11: A Comprehensive National Policy on International Education
This report published by the American Council on Education in Spring, 2002 outlines U.S. need for international and foreign language expertise and citizen awareness, examines the shortages in those areas, and proposes strategies and government policies to meet these needs.

Brave New (and Smaller) World of Higher Education: A Transatlantic View
This report published by the American Council on Education in 2002 explores the forces shaping change in higher education in the United States, Canada, and Europe; analyzes how institutions and policy makers are responding; and assesses the costs and benefits of these responses.

Toward an International Education Policy for the United States
The NAFSA web site includes the organization's landmark policy statement on international education. International education—imparting effective global literacy to students and other citizens as an integral part of their education—is important to address three critical areas of U.S. national interest: competitiveness in a global economy, national security and the management of global conflict, and an increasingly multicultural society.
